The statement came in response to the pleas in the court seeking to know the legal status of the PM-CARES fund.
The Centre in an affidavit told a bench that the fund was set up as a public charitable trust, and not created by or under the Constitution of India.
While announcing the measures, PM Modi emphasized that children represent the future of the country and the country will do everything possible to support and protect them.
PM Modi on May 29 chaired a meeting to discuss and deliberate on steps that can be taken to support children affected due to COVID.
He said that all such kids who have lost both parents due to the fatal virus will be supported under the 'PM-CARES for Children' scheme.
