Many big decisions were taken today in the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi. It has been decided to extend the Ujjwala Yojana for one year. This will benefit 9.6 crore mothers and sisters of the country. Under this scheme, 12 gas cylinders are distributed in a year. There is a subsidy benefit of Rs 200 on every cylinder.

It may be recalled that PMUY was launched in May 2016.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana launched in May 2016 with a target to give 5 crore LPG connections to poor women in three years.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the scheme in presence of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and state Food and Civil Supplies minister Kamlung Mossang at a function here.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday said new LPG connections would be reaching five crore women at the below poverty level (BPL) during the next three years through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), a scheme for providing free LPG connections to women of BPL households.
PMUY will be launched at Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.
