Points of interconnect News
Telecom regulator Trai on Wednesday stoutly defended its recommendation of Rs 3,050 crore penalty on Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular for their alleged failure to provide adequate points of interconnect (PoIs) to newcomer Reliance Jio for completing phone calls.
India's leading telecom service provider on Tuesday claimed that it gave sufficient point of interconnect (PoIs) to Reliance Jio but that the latter was unable to activate and utilize them.
Terming the overall Points of Interconnect situation as "better" than before, regulator Trai has said Vodafone and Idea Cellular are meeting norms in all circles, while for Bharti Airtel the congestion level is beyond permissible limit in eight circles.
Reassuring of having done everything 'humanly' possible to augment connectivity between its network and newcomer Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel on Tuesday said it hopes of 'objective outcome' on TRAI's suggested imposition of Rs 1,050 crore penalty over interconnect issue.
Amid simmering tension and ongoing parleys between new entrant and private incumbent operators over connectivity, state-owned telecom firm BSNL has said it has provided "sufficient points of interconnect" to Reliance Jio and can augment it more based on requirement.
