Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attended the Pongal celebrations at the residence of Union Minister of State (MoS) L Murugan in Delhi.

Pongal 2023: Pongal is a traditional harvest festival celebrated in South India, mostly in the states of Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. As the harvest season draws near, preparations are afoot everyone is in the celebratory mood with Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Bihu festivities. Extending his Pongal greetings to the people, Rajinikanth on Friday urged everybody to follow all the rules and restrictions to safeguard themselves against Covid 19.

Chief Minister MK Stalin presented the gift, packed in a cloth bag, to 10 beneficiary families at the state Secretariat on Tuesday. 

Pongal and Makar Sankranti coincide making it a festive atmosphere in the country. 

Pongal is one of the most important festivals of Tamil Nadu and falls around the same time as Lohri and Makar Sankranti. Pongal is celebrated to express gratitude to Sun God. 

Jallikattu - Tamil Nadu's bull-taming sport is considered a traditional one, and conducted during Pongal celebrations.
