There is no shortage of coal in the country and coal stock for 23 days is available with thermal power stations, Lok Sabha was informed Thursday.

The government has set a target of generating close to 1,100 billion units of electricity during the current financial year as the coal supply at thermal power stations has eased.

A subsidy of up to Rs 7,500 crore will be provided to private power companies in the next two years as part of the scheme approved by the Cabinet to revive 31 electricity generating units stranded for want of gas.

Of the 60 power stations with less than seven stocks, 37 generation plants have fuel for less than four days.

There was a sharp fall in power output on Thursday from a plant in Gujarat that left India more than 9,000 megawatts short of peak demand, according to two officials at the state grid operator.

As per latest CEA report, as many as 20 power stations in the country have fuel stocks to last less than four days.
