The Modi government at the Center has given a big gift to the poor on Diwali. On Diwali, PM Modi announced that free ration will continue for 5 years. For the past several years, the Government of India has been running the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.

The scheme was launched in December last year by the government to enable people with black money to come clean by paying tax and penalty of 50 percent.

A whopping Rs 5,400 crore worth of "undisclosed income" has been detected by law-enforcing agencies till January 10 since demonetisation came into force last November, the government has told the Supreme Court.

The CBDT will hold a high-level meeting later this week to review the progress in collections under the black money window of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna (PMGKY), that will close on March 31.

Prosecution action by the Income Tax department in black money cases has shot up three times with the taxman filing over 570 such charge sheets across the country till January this year.  

The Income Tax department has identified 18 lakh people who have made 'suspicious' cash deposits post demonetisation, including those having deposited over Rs 5 lakh, and will send emails and SMSes seeking explanation about their source of funds.

The income tax department on Sunday advised the black money holders that their undisclosed assets are "not hidden" from its gaze. 

The Income Tax department has unearthed one of the biggest black money rackets in the national capital post demonetisation.

Income Tax officials are probing 600 Jan Dhan accounts in Bihar and Jharkhand for their suspected naxal connection after they showed a total deposit of over Rs 10.8 crore following demonetisation.
