Union Minister of Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya on Thursday introduced in the Rajya Sabha the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill, 2016, that seeks to increase maternity leave benefit for women from 12 to 26 weeks.
Cabinet has given ex-post facto approval to the amendments made to the Maternity Benefits Act, that aims to raise maternity leave for women from 12 weeks to 26 weeks.
All establishments, including in private sector, will have to provide 26-week maternity leave to their women employees under a new bill.
