Yasin Malik has been sentenced to life imprisonment in terror funding case. He is an advocate of the separation of Kashmir from both India and Pakistan. He gave up violence in 1994 and adopted peaceful methods to resolve the Kashmir issue.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti was released late on Tuesday night. She was in detention for over a year, since the eve of Centre scrapping Article 370. Jammu and Kashmir administration spokesperson Rohit Kansal tweeted, "Ms. Mehbooba Mufti being released".

The Supreme Court will on Tuesday (September 29, 2020) take up a petition seeking the release of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The plea has been filed by Mufti`s daughter Iltija Mufti. It may be noted that the Centre had extended PDP chief Mufti`s detention under Public Safety Act (PSA) by three months in July.

National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Tuesday demanded that PDP president Mehbooba Mufti be set free, saying merely shifting her home while keeping her under detention was a cop out.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has ordered the immediate release of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah. National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah had been put under detention in August 2019 following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

A case has been registered under the Public Safety Act (PSA) against Shah Faisal, the former IAS of Jammu and Kashmir and head of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement. Under the PSA, one can be kept in custody for at least three months without trial.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday (February 6) booked Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti under Public Safety Act (PSA), sources said.

National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah's detention on Saturday was extended by three months under the stringent Public Safety Act in Jammu and Kashmir.
