The government has received a representation alleging hoarding of pulses by big traders and importers in "a foreign country", Parliament was informed on Tuesday.

Concerned over widening gap in demand and supply of pulses leading to exorbitant rise in prices, the Commerce Ministry will hold a meeting Wednesday with importers on their strategy on dealing with the situation in the coming months.

Pulses importers met with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and sought exemption from the stock limit. The also promised 1 lakg kg or Tur to government agencies at Rs 135 per kg per day

Pulses prices in the country are on an upswing. Retail prices of Tur dal touched Rs 200 per kg today. Urad at Rs 190 per kg is expected to follow the trend soon.

In a desperate attempt to curb rising pulses prices, government announced imposition of stock limits on pulses across the trade.
