Denominations of Rs 200 and Rs 2000 were used to decorate the idol of the goddess.
The first day of the Chittirai month of the Tamil Calendar is celebrated as the Tamil New Year also known as Puthandu or Varsha Pirappu. The Tamils celebrate the day with great pomp and delicious south Indian cuisine.
