Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday (March 10) announced that the Indian Railways has prepared a National Rail Plan (NRP) to create a ‘future ready’ Railway system latest by 2030.
The Union Railway Minister, in a written reply in Lok Sabha, said the NRP is aimed to formulate strategies based on both operational capacities and commercial policy initiatives.
The step is to increase the modal share of the Railways in freight to 45 percent.
Goyal said that Indian Railway is an invisible thread that connects the length and breadth of India
"During the lockdown, Railway showed its resolve in delivering the essential supplies to the nation in most challenging times and keep national supply chains running"
Piyush Goyal expressed the gratitude for Railway workmen for performing duties relentlessly during the lockdown period
The Minister urged the leaders of the federations to ponder how Railways can overcome this crisis that is looming across the world due to this pandemic
The Minister has sought crowdsourcing of ideas for boosting profitability and transformational changes from the railway employees
A Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel Inder Singh Yadav has recently shown the human face of the force amid sordid stories of suffering and plight of people in the wake of coronavirus crisis. The Railway Minister urged the Maharashtra government to help his ministry to facilitate poor workers to reach their homes.
Presently Metro services are run in Kolkata on only one North-South corridor from Noapara to Kavi Subhas stations over a length of 27.3 Km. This corridor was inaugurated 36 years ago in 1984.

The vacuum toilets, which cost around Rs 2.5 lakh per unit, will be odour-free, will cut down water usage by 1/20th and have much lesser chances of getting blocked.
"I am not giving an excuse, but problems in Indian Railways aren`t one or two years old, they were accumulated over years and were given to us in 2014 as inheritance," Goyal told the media.
