India's new envoy to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri on Saturday arrived here and would submit his letters of credence to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday.

Manjeev Singh Puri is the incumbent Indian Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Nepal after Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda`s" visit to India.  

Rumours were circulation from Sunday that the Nepal government was preparing to declare Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae persona non-grata.

India on Thursday said Begum Hazrat Mahal, who had rebelled against British colonial rule in the country in 1857-58, will always be remembered for her contribution in India's freedom struggle and described her as a "source of inspiration".

Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae said on Wednesday said the country will support the bid for seeking political consensus among the government, opposition and agitating Madhesi political parties in Nepal.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae also dismissed reports that India is unhappy with the new Constitution in Nepal. 

With Indo-Nepal ties witnessing unease after the promulgation of the new Constitution here, India Tuesday hoped that "difficult days" would not affect their friendship as it welcomed the Nepal government's move to hold talks with agitating groups.

With hundreds of Nepal-bound cargo-bearing trucks halted at the border, Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae was summoned to the foreign ministry on Friday for clarification whether India had imposed any restriction on trade with the Himalayan nation.

As Nepal on Sunday adopted a new constitution, India said it has always supported a federal, democratic, republican and inclusive constitution in the Himalayan nation, but voiced concern over the unrest in parts of the neighbouring country bordering India.

India on Saturday said completion of Nepal's new Constitution should be an occasion of joy and not violence, a day before promulgation of the statute following protests on a federal model by Madhesi groups that has spilled over to districts bordering India.
