VK Saxena has approved the filing of a review petition in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of the three accused in the Chhawla case This has come days after the parents of the 2012 Chhawla gangrape victim met Delhi LG

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut expressed her thoughts after the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder convicts were hanged to death. 

A bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur directed the print and electronic media not to reveal identity of victims of rape and sexual assault "even in a remote manner".

SC on Thursday asked Madhya Pradesh government whether it was doing a 'charity' by giving a meagre amount to the victims of sexual assaults.

The bench, also comprising Justices Amitava Roy and A M Khanwilkar, directed preservation of the terminated foetus for DNA sampling during the investigation in both the cases.

Victims and activists have long campaigned for changes to the 1907 law, as society`s attitudes toward rape victims are still chilly and many stay silent from shame or fear of criticism.  

The apex court said they should consider and formulate programmes for such victims in the light of the scheme framed in Goa.

Two rape victims were shot dead on Sunday in separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh with one of them being fatally attacked just two days before she had to appear in a court as a witness in the case.
