The newly inaugurated 17-kilometer extension of the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut RRTS corridor will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to under an hour

RapidX Namo Bharat: देश की पहली रीजनल ट्रेन 'रीजनल रैपिड ट्रांजिट सिस्टम' (RRTS) रेलगाड़ियों को 'नमो भारत' (NAMO Bharat) के नाम से जाना जाएगा. आधिकारिक सूत्रों ने गुरुवार को यह जानकारी दी. प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी (Narendra Modi) RRTS के प्राथमिकता खंड का उद्घाटन करेंगे. दिल्ली-गाजियाबाद-मेरठ आरआरटीएस गलियारे का 17 किलोमीटर लंबा प्राथमिकता वाला खंड इसके उद्घाटन के एक दिन बाद 21 अक्टूबर को यात्रियों के लिए खोल दिया जाएगा.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is being developed at a cost exceeding Rs 30,000 crore and will efficiently connect Delhi to Meerut in under an hour, passing through urban centres of Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar, according to the PMO.

The first tunnel breakthrough in Meerut was achieved in October 2022 and with the sixth and last breakthrough, tunnelling is complete in the underground section, said NCRTC.

RAPIDX will be commissioned in a few weeks time, said NCRTC MD Vinay Kumar Singh, hinting at a possible launch on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day by PM Modi.

Earlier, the Ministry of Railways had sanctioned RRTS rolling stock (train sets), which has a design speed of 180 kmph and operational speed of 160 kmph, the officials said.

Delhi-Meerut RRTS: While Rapid in RAPIDX denotes speed and progress, the X in the name is meant for the next-generation technology and the new-age mobility solution, said NCRTC. 

Two parallel tunnels of about 3 km are being constructed between Anand Vihar and Khichdipur towards New Ashok Nagar RRTS station.

Regional Rapid Train: The country's first regional rapid train is ready to hit the ground running. The country's first rapid train will initially cover a distance of 17 km. The distance of 17 km will be covered in just 12 minutes. During this distance, it will stop at five stations. The train will stop at Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai and Duhai Depots. From where passengers will be able to travel by boarding the rapid train.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS will improve the connectivity between the two cities covering a distance of 87-km in around an hour operating at a speed of 150 kmph.

The RRTS will connect Meerut and Delhi, situated 87 km apart using India's fastest and modern metro trains made by Alstom, designed to run at 180 kmph.

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS will provide a grass-root level of connectivity with other modes of transportation in the national capital like Delhi Metro, railway, airport, and bus terminals.

The Duhai Depot of the India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Delhi-Meerut corridor is now functional with state-of-the-art facilities, National Capital Region Transport Corporation officials said.
