The government on Wednesday said it has achieved the fiscal deficit target of 3.5 percent of GDP in 2016-17.
India's fiscal deficit touched Rs 5.64 lakh crore at the end of January, 105.7 percent of the full-year target, mainly due to lower realisation of non-tax revenue.
Government on Tuesday said it has achieved the fiscal deficit target of 3.9 percent of GDP in 2015-16.
Finance Ministry today said the fiscal deficit for 2015-16 is likely to remain below 3.9 percent of the GDP on the back of tax receipts and realisation from disinvestment.
The fiscal deficit in the first month of 2015-16 was Rs 1.27 lakh crore or 23 percent of Budget Estimates for the whole financial year.
