A special court in Kolkata, on January 20, sentenced Roy to life imprisonment in the case and stated that his offence cannot be considered the “rarest of rare crimes.”
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had demanded the death penalty for Sanjay Roy, calling the crime in the ‘rarest of rare case category.’

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the father of the deceased woman medic said, "I have spoken to him (Amit Shah). He has called me (for a meeting). I cannot talk much about it, but the meeting will take place."
This comes after Mamata Banerjee issued an appeal to the junior doctors to withdraw their fast-unto-death demonstration and come for discussions.

A special court here on Friday extended till November 4 the judicial custody of former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, and the ex-Station House Officer of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal -- arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a junior woman doctor of the state-run facility within its premises in August this year.
The Calcutta HC on August 23 ordered the transfer of the probe into the alleged financial irregularities at the hospital from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the central agency.
