The funeral of veteran actress Shammi, fondly known as Shammi aunty, took place in Mumbai on Tuesday. The actress died after prolonged illness at her home late on Monday, a family friend reportedly said. She was 87.

Veteran Bollywood celebrities such as Asha Parekh, Farida Jalal, Anju Mahendru as well as her co-stars, Boman Irani and Farah Khan, who acted with her in 'Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi' paid their last respects to the actress.

Shammi had no relatives except an adopted son Iqbal Rizvi, who stayed close by but not in the same apartment as his foster-mother.

She was married to film producer-director Sultan Ahmed for seven years.
