Commerce secretary Rita Teaotia on Saturday told the exporting community that exemptions and incentives, which were being given for promoting exports would go away once the GST was in place.

Concerned over procedural delays in exports and imports, the government has decided to initiate a joint exercise by officials from the ministries of finance and shipping for expediting the clearance process.

Chief negotiators of India and EU Monday took stock of "outstanding issues", including duty cut on automobiles and movement of professionals, that have held up talks on the proposed free trade agreement (FTA).

Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia said the ministry is focusing on exports sectors with a huge potential such as pharmaceuticals, ready-made garments, leather, gems and jewellery, chemicals and agro-chemicals.
