Sacrilege case News

This decision was made in response to the alleged mistakes committed by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and its government in Punjab from 2007 to 2017.

Two cases of sacrilege have been reported in Punjab in the last two days. The first case came from the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the second came from a gurdwara in Kapurthala. At both places, the accused were thrashed to death by a furious mob. In these cases, everyone is talking about hurting religious sentiments, but no one is talking about lynching.

In Punjab, there were two murders in the case of sacrilege in 24 hours. But the most shocking incident happened at a press conference in Kapurthala when the police officers changed their statement after getting the call.

Security agencies have put Punjab Police on high alert on the sacrilege case. According to the information, efforts can be made to incite religious sentiments.

Shiromani Akali Dal President Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday (December 18) expressed shock over the alleged attempt to commit sacrilege at Golden Temple in Amritsar and said there clearly is a "deep-rooted conspiracy" behind it.

Last month, the Punjab and Haryana High Court said the Punjab Police could question the Dera Sacha Sauda sect head in the jail in connection with the 2015 sacrilege case.

The Faridkot court issued the production warrant against Ram Rahim seeking his custodial interrogation in case involving the thefts of a copy of Guru Granth Sahib.

Terming it as "inconclusive", the Punjab government on Friday rejected the report of the Justice Zora Singh Commission and ordered a fresh Commission of Inquiry, headed by Justice (retd) Ranjit Singh to investigate all cases of sacrilege in the state.
