Since 2014, Debjani Mukherjee's address is Dum Dum central jail. Sharbari Mukherjee alleged that CID officials went to Dumdum Jail on August 23. As soon as Sharabri's letter to the CBI became public, there was an uproar.

Former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee has been lodged in Jail on charges of corruption in the appointment of teachers. Another accused in this case, Arpita Mukherjee, has also been in the same situation. On August 5, Special Court Judge Jibon Kumar Sadhu ordered Partha and Arpita 14-day jail custody.

The court ordered that the three properties in the hands of SEBI should be immediately auctioned. In all, about Rs 1,500 crore will have to be returned to the depositors. The depositors hope that the money will be available this time after a long period of complications.

In a major relief for former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kukar, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday granted him anticipatory bail in the Saradha ponzi scam case.

Kumar, who is believed to a close aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is accused of tampering with evidence in the case.

The two-member team reached Kumar's Kolkata residence at 34, Park Street. According to sources, the team spoke to his wife Sanchita Kumar and asked about his whereabouts. It was not known what the team learnt from Kumar's wife. The team left later.

The agency has also issued fresh summons against Kumar directing him to appear before it for questioning in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam at 11 am on Friday. Kumar has not appeared before the CBI in any of its summons and if he fails to present himself at 11 am, the CBI may arrest him. 

Banerjee flew to Delhi on Tuesday, which was also PM Modi`s birthday.

Former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam but he has failed to appear before the CBI despite two summons.

It is to be noted that Kumar failed to appear for questioning before the agency despite being summoned after the Calcutta High Court passed an order withdrawing the protection from arrest granted to him in the case.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday refused to set up special bench to hear former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar's plea seeking an extension of the seven-day period granted by the court to Kumar to approach a court after his protection from arrest was vacated.

In his petition before the SC, ex-Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar has cited strike of lawyers in West Bengal as the main reason for the extension.

"We have withdrawn the protection given to Rajeev Kumar vide order dated February 5," the court said while pronouncing the order. 

The SC also issued a notice to the West Bengal government, Rajeev Kumar and Chief Secretary in contempt of court case. 

CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said that Nalini Chidambaram entered into a criminal conspiracy with the proprietor of Saradha group Sudipta Sen and some other accused persons in this case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday summoned senior advocate Nalini Chidambaram, wife of former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram, to appear for questioning in the connection to the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.

The CBI on Wednesday interrogated Trinamool Congress leader and former West Bengal minister Madan Mitra in connection with the Narada tapes scam.
