This indigenously designed and developed miniature spacecraft is meant to test the capabilities of LoRa (Long range) technology in space. LoRa is a long-range, low-power wireless radio frequency technology that has become a common platform for the Internet of Things (IoT) networks worldwide.

As per the reports, the technology is expected to be over 100 times faster than 5G. "The satellite also carries technology which will be used for crop disaster monitoring and forest fire prevention," said a BBC report. The 13 satellites also included 10 from Argentina and it is said to be the 351st launch by the Long March rocket series.

India currently has 49 satellites serving various applications in Earth’s orbit and four more are ready for launch in 2020. In the year 2019-2020, ISRO built 12 satellites of which eight have been launched and four are ready for launch. It is to be noted that ISRO hasn’t had any launches this year, owing to the coronavirus pandemic and related challenges.
