Saturn moons News
Once every year, Earth and Saturn come close to each other while revolving in their orbital path.
The image was part of a mosaic that included the planet's moon Daphnis (PIA17212).
This is big news considering it is the first direct evidence of the existence of liquid-filled channels on Titan, as well as the first observation of canyons hundreds of meters deep.
Pan and moons like it have profound effects on Saturn's rings, ranging from clearing gaps to creating new ringlets, to raising vertical waves that rise above and below the ring plane.
The image shows the wrinkled plains of the moon that are remarkably youthful in appearance, being generally free of large impact craters.
The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini spacecraft wide-angle camera on November 23, 2015
