External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, on Friday, backed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's bold decision to refuse signing the joint document at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers' meeting in China. Jaishankar emphasised that the SCO's primary objective is to combat terrorism, and it is unacceptable to dilute this mission.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Qingdao, China, emphasising the need for collective action against terrorism and extremism. During his meeting with Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun, Singh strongly condemned Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, underscoring the urgent need for cooperation to combat this global threat.

India had insisted on including a firm stance against terrorism. Another country objected. With no consensus, the document was shelved.

 In a bold and uncompromising address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers' Meeting held in Qingdao, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh firmly reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. He called out Pakistan for perpetuating cross-border terrorism and defended India's recent counter-terror operation, Op Sindoor, as a legitimate and necessary act of national self-defence.
