In memory of Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifice and to honour his legacy, the Indian government declared January 30 as Martyrs’ Day; dignitaries like Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were present at Gandhi Smriti.
On March 23, 1931, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru laid down their lives for the independence of India from colonial rule. The trio was found guilty of killing deputy police superintendent JP Saunders in 1928, to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai.
Shaheed Diwas 2022 Martyr's Day: On this day, freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar were hanged to death by the British rulers of India in 1931.
