Away from the main markets, bitcoin`s vertiginous ascent showed no signs of abating, with the cryptocurrency soaring to another record high just a few percent away from $10,000 after gaining more than a fifth in value over the past three days alone.

Shanghai stocks closed down 7.63 percent on Tuesday, piling on fresh heavy losses after their worst daily fall since 2007 sparked panic selling around the world.

Shanghai shares closed up 4.92 percent on Monday on speculation of a broad overhaul of state-owned enterprises after weak economic figures released over the weekend, dealers said.

Equities in Hong Kong rose 0.26 percent Wednesday, a fourth straight gain, on hopes Greece will agree a debt reform deal with its creditors, while Shanghai extended the previous day`s gains on improved liquidity.
