India women defeated South Africa women by 11 runs in the first T20I match at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium here on Tuesday.

The defending World Champions are currently placed seventh with 10 points from 11 games while India are placed second with 16 points from 14 games.

India, who made 202, defended the modest score with some crafty spin bowling by left-arm Ekta Bisht (4 for 25) to emerge victorious by 66 runs and take a 1-0 lead.

Bisht returned with impressive figures of four for 25 to help India women defend a modest a 203-run target by bundling out England women for a paltry 136 in 41 overs. 

Australia will be looking to begin the series on a winning note but face a tough task at hand considering the wicket and weather conditions.

Riding on Harmanpreet's epic 171 off 115 balls, India set the Southern Stars a mammoth target of 282 runs. And the defending champions, despite being the heavy favourites, needed one good start.
