Dr Anil Arora, Chairman of the Institute of Liver said that doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital have seen five patients who developed gallbladder gangrene after recovering from COVID-19.
He claimed it is the first time that cases of gallbladder gangrene have been reported after recovery from COVID-19 infection.
In the CT scan, a large, encapsulated mass was seen extending from left hemidiaphragm to left iliac fossa.
"This tumour had grown so huge that it involved pancreas, large bowel and spleen," the statement said.
A CT scan at the hospital revealed a perforated intestine.
"After four hours of surgery, holes in the patient’s food pipe, small intestine and large intestine were closed,” Dr Arora said.
Doctors at Delhi-based SGRH have observed a rise in the number of COVID-triggered mucormycosis or black fungus cases.
Earlier last year, the patients who reported COVID-triggered black fungal infection also complained about weaker eyesight.
