Smog tower News
The 20-meter-tall anti-smog tower, built at a cost of about Rs 3 crore, will cover an area of one square kilometre and help mitigate air pollution during the winter season.
"Pollution has started increasing. 09 Oct- AQI - 171 (0 to 50 - Good, 51 to 100 - Satisfactory, 101 to 200 - Moderate) PM10 - 197 (0 to 50 - Good, 51 to 100 - Satisfactory, 101 to 250 - Moderate) PM2.5 - 69 (0 to 30 - Good, 31 to 60 - Satisfactory, 61 to 90 - Moderate)," Kejriwal tweeted.
“We implemented graded response action plan in Delhi. We've formed 75 teams under anti dust campaign to review situation&penalise those flouting guidelines. We are studying impact of Delhi's smog tower and if result is good, then more towers will be installed,” said Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
The smog tower is a structure designed as large-scale air purifiers to reduce pollution particles in surrounding areas
The tower has a capacity of 1,000 cubic metres per second, as 40 fans have been installed to provide a design airflow rate of 1000 m3/sec
The project has been started on a pilot basis and will be replicated once the performance is found to be efficient.
Experts will closely study the performance of the tower.
Made with American Technology, the tower will significantly reduce air pollution levels in Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated country's first smog tower at Connaught Place in Delhi on Monday.
Delhi CM said it will prove to be a milestone and many such structures can be installed in the city if the pilot project yields results.
PM2.5 is defined as fine particulate matter suspended in the air that is two and a half microns or less in width.
Delhi Environment Minister said if the smog tower is found effective, more such towers will be set up across the national capital.
The 20-metre-tall structure is being set up to improve air quality.
It will be Delhi's first smog tower.
Experts will monitor its utility before a decision is taken to build more such structures.
