SP Balasubrahmanyam's son on Monday confirmed that the singer has tested negative for the COVID-19 but added that he is still on the ventilator. Taking to social media platform Instagram, Charan shared a video post giving an update on the health of the singer. The 74-year old singer, who has won multiple national awards and film fare awards was admitted on August 5 in Chennai's MGM hospital due to COVID-19.

The 74-year old singer was admitted on August 5 and said in an Instagram video message that he got himself hospitalised in order to recuperate comfortably while avoiding risk to his family, SPB has reportedly recorded over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages including in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam movies.

In a first-ever in the history of the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple, the Devaswom board has come forward to perform a special puja for singer SP Balasubrahmanyam. An ‘Usha Puja’ followed by a ‘Gaana-Archana’ (Musical offering) was performed for Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity of the temple on Friday. A musician of the temple’s governing board played the Naadhaswaram to the tune of SPB’s national award-winning song Shankara Naadhashareera.

SP Charan said that the family is hopeful, expresses thanks to the film and music industry that's coming together in their prayers for the singer.

At the time of being admitted, the singer put out a video saying he has mild COVID-19 symptoms and that he would recover soon and assured fans of his good health.

SP Balasubrahmanyam is able to recognise the doctors and others, his breathing is better and comfortable. The doctor's see his current situation as a positive sign. The veteran singer had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 5 and his condition had deteriorated last week.

Several personalities took to social media and wished Balasubrahmanyam a speedy recovery, praying for his good health. The legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja, in a video message, wished for SP Balasubrahmanyam's good health, urging him to 'come back soon'.
