Attorney General KK Venugopal has told the government that the CBI should not file a special leave petition in the Bofors case.

The CBI has written to the government for reconsideration of its 2005 decision and allow the agency to file a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court in the Bofors case challenging quashing of an FIR in the alleged scam, officials said.

The Delhi government on August 5 informed the apex court that, it would file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the Delhi High Court verdict that erased all doubts over Delhi`s status as a Union Territory.

A Supreme Court bench of Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman passed the order dismissing the I-T department`s SLP, in relation to taxing of the FCCB proceeds, interest and derivatives income or loss thereon.

The development comes, after DCW chief Swati Maliwal submitted the petition to the registerer general of the Supreme Court, even as a strong contingent of the media waited outside the court's premises to follow on the latest in the case.

The Indian Navy today filed a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court challenging a recent order of the Delhi High Court asking it to grant permanent commission to 17 women officers who had retired after their Short Service Commission ended in 2006.
