Herve Falciani, the former HSBC employee whose disclosures uncorked the "Swissleaks" scandal on bank-supported tax evasion, was sentenced in absentia on Friday to five years in prison, Switzerland's ATS news agency said.
British bank HSBC Holdings Plc admitted failings by its Swiss subsidiary in response to media reports it helped wealthy customers dodge taxes and conceal millions of dollars of assets.
The cache of files made public in the so-called SwissLeaks case included the names of celebrities, alleged arms dealers and politicians -- though inclusion on the list does not necessarily imply wrongdoing.
