The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it does not want to "shut the door" to an amicable settlement of Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute as the Centre expressed its keenness to find a solution, saying it had convened a high-level meeting of Punjab and Haryana on April 20.

In a stern message to Punjab, the Supreme Court today said its verdict allowing construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal in Haryana and Punjab has to be implemented.

The Supreme Court will on Thursday resume hearing the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal issue involving the states of Punjab and Haryana.

The SYL canal issue refers to water sharing dispute between Punjab and Haryana.

A huge posse of personnel was deployed and barricades were put up at the main entry points from Haryana from where the INLD workers are expected to enter Punjab to dig the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal.

Activists of Haryana's Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) will on Thursday begin their march from Ambala and enter Punjab to “dig” the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal.

Nearly two months after 43 legislators in Punjab tendered their resignations from the assembly over an SC ruling on the SYL Canal issue, there is uncertainty on their status.
