Afghanistan has freed nearly 200 Taliban prisoners to spur long-delayed peace talks, as a team of negotiators readies to fly this week to Qatar`s capital.
The prisoners formed part of a group of 400 jailed "hardcore" Islamist separatists.
Their stalled release had appeared set to delay talks between the government and the insurgent group to end nearly two decades of war.

Afghan officials voiced optimism Sunday that Taliban peace talks would resume "within weeks" even after the insurgents rebuffed calls for dialogue, with analysts dismissing their seemingly tough stance as a bargaining ploy.
The UN had agreed to remove some Taliban members who renounced ties to al Qaeda from the UN blacklist on a "gradual" basis to try and help Afghan efforts to engage some insurgents in talks.
