The vibrant festival of Tamil New Year, also known as Puthandu or Varusha Pirappu, marks the beginning of a new calendar year Tamil New Year 2025 is a reminder that every ending brings a fresh start. It is a day filled with rituals that honour the past and embrace the future with hope.

Lashing out at BJP, the DMK President said that the BJP was threatening democracy across the country and that they were targeting the DMK in Tamil Nadu by riding on the back of the BJP’s puppet AIADMK government, which is ruling the state. 

“We have not re-created a new name, we have only modified the existing ones as per Tamil phonetics. We have only changed the English version of the name. From the Central Committee, we received a list of 3500 names that had to be modified and we cut it down to 1018," he said

His statement came in wake of the demand by Hindu Makkal Katchi on Wednesday to ban the show and arrest him for "hurting sentiments of people in Tamil Nadu by depicting obscene content".

In its police complaint, the nationalist Hindu party demanded that the contestants of the show -- such as Oviya, Namitha, Ganja Karuppu and Harathi among others -- be arrested as well. 

Veteran actor Kamal Hassan addressed the media in Chennai on Tuesday to express his views on the issue of Jallikattu.
