Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar is all set to be the next Chief Justice of India.
The Supreme Court collegium on November 18 had rejected the Centre`s plea for "reconsideration" of 43 names recommended for appointment as judges in various high courts.
In a setback to the Centre, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to accept rejection of 43 names by the NDA government that were recommended by its collegium in connection with appointment of judges in various high courts.
Much of the contention raised in the review plea are the ones flagged by former top court judge Justice Markandey Katju in the last few days after he was asked to assist the BCCI in the implementation of the Justice Lodha Committee recommendations.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken due cognisance of the plea of Chief Justice of India Tirath Singh Thakur, who urged the Centre to mend the incumbent loopholes in judicial system for efficient results.
Justice Tirath Singh Thakur will take oath as Chief Justice of India. on December 3.
