Play has been scheduled to start 30 minutes earlier on Day 2 to try and make up some of the overs lost on Day 1.

Astle has been included in the Test side for the first time since last June, when he was ruled out of the second Test against England due to a knee problem.

All-rounders Jimmy Neesham and Todd Astle have been recalled to the squad as replacements for Doug Bracewell and leg-spinner Ish Sodhi respectively. 

New Zealand legspinner Todd Astle will miss the second Test against England due to a side strain, team officials said on Wednesday, with Ish Sodhi called in as a like-for-like replacement.

Astle, who was recalled to replace the injured Mitchell Santner, had Craig Overton trapped in front before he ended the test when Jimmy Anderson was caught by Trent Boult at mid-off to give New Zealand just their 10th test victory over England.

The loss leaves the West Indies yet to register a win on their New Zealand tour after a 2-0 whitewash in the Test series. 

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and spinner Todd Astle have been recalled in the 13-man ODI squad for the three-match series against West Indies beginning December 20 in Whangarei.

Ludhiana-born Sodhi has so far played 18 ODIs and picked 19 wickets after making his debut versus Zimbabwe in 2015.
