The visibility conditions affected the operations of trains and caused a delay of up to five hours; before this, 11 trains were delayed on Thursday for similar reasons, reports PTI.

With dense fog engulfing North India, especially the national capital region around Delhi, a lot of trains are running late, while many are cancelled as well.

Indian Railways official said that multiple trains have been delayed due to dense foggy conditions increasing trouble for the railway passengers, reports ANI.

If the traveller files a deficiency of service complaint before a consumer forum, Railways would be liable to compensate the passenger "If public transportation has to survive and compete with private players, they have to improve the system and their working culture," SC reportedly observed

In its report tabled in Parliament, the CAG said the station modernisation plans should address infrastructural constraints.

It was a cold Friday morning in the national capital with the minimum temperature recorded at 6.1 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season`s average.

"There was mist in the morning. The sky is likely to be partly cloudy in the day ahead," an India Meteorological Department official said.

IRCTC will provide food to passengers free of cost onboard if the train is delayed beyond two hours due the fog.
