Todupunuri Amarnath Goud, who took over as interim chief justice of the Tripura HC in February, has been replaced by Aparesh Kumar Singh. The Tripura High Court was set up in March, 2013, along with the full-fledged High Courts in Meghalaya and Manipur. All the northeastern states, excluding Sikkim, were earlier under the Guwahati High Court.

The Tripura High Court will hear cases during the 11-day summer vacation beginning May 15 to clear the backlog of pending cases, an official said here on Friday.

Along with Tripura, separate High Courts were also set up in Manipur and Meghalaya in 2013.  

Out of the total 40.54 lakh cases pending in all the high courts as on June 30 last year, 29,31,352 were civil cases and 11,23,178 criminal matters, while 7,43,191 matters are over a decade old.
