Tuticorin-based Tamilnad Mercantile bank IPO subscribed over 1.53 times on second day. The price band of the IPO is Rs 500-525 per share. An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is a process to offer shares of the company in exchange of money to the public investors.

Tamil Nadu observed day as a state event with CM MK Stalin and leaders cutting across party lines honouring state's icon of the freedom movement. An arterial road, renamed after VOC in Tuticorin was declared open by Minister for Social Welfare P Geetha Jeevan.

A CBI spokesperson said the agency filed the chargesheet against 9 police officials, all from Sathankulam Police Station in Tamil Nadu. 

Initially, the CB-CID, led by DSP Anil Kumar was tasked with handling the case before a team of CBI officers from Delhi took it over. During hearing on Tuesday, the court condemned three police personnel from the Sathankulam station for having threatened and insulted a Judicial Magistrate.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday formally took over the investigation into the Jayaraj-Bennix custodial deaths case from the CB-CID. A Team headed by CBI ADSP Vijaykumar Shukla started the investigation by visiting the residence of the bereaved family in Sathankulam. 

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to arrive in Madurai on Friday to take over the investigations into the Jayaraj-Bennix custodial death case in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin.

A three-page inquiry report submitted to the Madras High Court has revealed that the cops were lax in their response and even verbally abused the Magistrate while he was at the police station for the investigation into the case. 

A division bench of justices, based on the preliminary postmortem report which notes evidence of wounds and judicial inquirer's findings, also observed that there are sufficient grounds for the registration of a case against police officials in the matter. 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday (June 28) said the state government will seek permission from the Madurai bench of Madras High Court to transfer the case to CBI.

In the US, the government didn`t wait for any court directive but immediately charged the guilty policeman with murder, he pointed out.  

Several celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra, Taapsee Pannu, Tiger Shroff, Neha Dhupia and others condemned the act and shared their views on social media. 

In a joint statement, CM K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam said on behalf of the party that the two deaths were saddening and unfortunate and announced Rs 25 lakh to the bereaved kin.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court directed the TN govt to file its response by June 6.

Last month, as many as nine people were killed in police firing following protests for the closure of Vedanta group's Sterlite Copper plant over pollution concerns that turned violent.

Rajinikanth on Wednesday blamed anti-social elements for the anti-Sterlite protests last week that resulted in the tragic death of at least 13 people in Tuticorin.   

Rajinikanth made the announcement after he visited general hospital in Tuticorin to meet those who got injured during the violent protests.

Large-scale violence on May 22 against the Sterlite copper plant in Tuticorin and police firing led to the death of 12 persons. Next day saw one more youth succumbing to injuries sustained in police firing.

Advocate GS Mani In his PIL alleged a "pre-planned murder" by police with the help of high-level officials of police and civil administration.

Stalin also said that the PM should have visited the place or should have at least sent a central minister to assess the situation. 

The protest, led by DMK, was held in Egmore in Chennai to condemn the Tuticorin violence in which 13 people lost their lives.
