Canada has been in dire circumstances due to floods and rains, due to which a state of emergency has been declared in British Columbia, Canada. Army has been dispatched for rescue work.

The nation's fourth most populous city was inundated with between 15 and 30 inches (38-76 cm) of rain during the weekend and several more inches fell on Monday, according to the National Weather Service. 

Record flooding from the rain-swollen Mississippi River and its tributaries stressed dams and levees to the breaking point in parts of Illinois, one of several central US states reeling from winter storms that have killed some two dozen people.

The Illinois National Guard was ordered into action and hundreds of people urged to flee rising floodwaters, as the death toll from days of heavy rain in the US Midwest mounted.

Rain-swollen rivers rose across Missouri and Illinois on Wednesday, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of people, closing parts of a major interstate highway and putting scores of buildings underwater after days of unusual winter flooding that has killed 23 people.

The death toll from record floods that swamped swaths of the southeastern United States has climbed to 16, officials said today, as the focus shifted to damage assessment and securing dams.

South Carolina residents today reeled under the effects of weekend flooding that killed at least 11 people and left tens of thousands without power or drinking water.

Some 26,000 South Carolinians did not have electricity and 40,000 had no drinking water.
