The S&P/Case-Shiller 20-city price index slipped 0.1 percent in June from May. Year-over-year, prices were up 5.0 percent in June, accelerating slightly from the 4.9 percent gain in the prior month.
Private housing starts fell 1.6 percent from October to an annual rate of 1.028 million, the Commerce Department reported.
The 20-city price index rose 0.2 percent from July to August, with the biggest drag coming from the West Coast market.
