The Election Commission of India has held an important meeting regarding the upcoming elections of 5 states. The Election Commission can announce the dates of assembly elections anytime.

Voting for seven assembly seats across six states has started. Many of these seats are a direct contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party and regional parties.

The Governor accepted Yogi Adityanath's resignation and requested him to continue as the caretaker chief minister along with his cabinet till further arrangements are made, according to an official release issued by the Raj Bhavan.

UP holds a special position in India's politics and the issue of women's safety has been a significant concern in the state for a long time.

Zee News, which is one of the country’s largest media houses, on Monday broadcast the results of the biggest exit polls for the hard-fought assembly elections 2022 in five major states – UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.

Apna Dal is contesting Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in alliance with the BJP. Apna Dal is a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Apna Dal had contested 11 seats and managed to win nine. 

Zee News, which is one of the country's largest media houses, will declare the results of the exit polls to check the mood of the voters in five states which went to the polls recently. The exit poll results will be declared after 6.30 PM.

The voting began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Polling is being held in 57 Assembly constituencies spread across 10 districts including Gorakhpur, Ambedkarnagar, Ballia, Balrampur, Basti, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar and Siddharthnagar.

When asked what if the BJP wins in UP but gets much fewer seats than before, will Yogi Adityanath would still become CM, Nadda said the party fought the elections under Yogi Adityanath and it remains confident of winning more than 300 seats. Nadda said “no question of Yogi Adityanath not becoming UP CM’’ arises but the final call will be taken by the BJP parliamentary board.

A case has been registered against Raja Bhaiyya and 17 others at Kunda police station under sections of IPC and SC-ST Act. It may be recalled that Gulshan Yadav had alleged that Raja Bhaiyya and his men had attacked him near a polling station. Though he escaped unhurt, his car was damaged.

Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, N Biren Singh expressed confidence that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be voted to power in the state. He said, "The BJP is expecting at least 30 out of 38 seats in the first phase. People of Manipur like Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

The BJP is banking on PM Narendra Modi`s charismatic image, double-engine rhetoric, free ration during the COVID pandemic and PM Awas Yojana Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party is eying on youth electorates besides its traditional game of consolidation of Yadav and Muslim vote bank Asaduddin Owaisi`s AIMIM which is also in the fray may prove to be a spoiler in SP`s social engineering when it comes to Muslim voters

The SP chief expressed confidence that his party-led alliance will make a clean sweep in the crucial assembly polls in UP.

Purported videos on social media showed Mishra, whose vote falls in the Nighasan assembly constituency, walking towards and from the voting centre around 11.30 AM flanked by an unusually large number of security personnel.

Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh are being held in seven phases and will conclude on March 7. Poling for the fourth phase is underway today. Voting for the remaining three phases will take place on February 27, March 3, and 7.
