Anil Bediya, a 22-year-old labourer who hails from Jharkhand revealed how he and his co-workers endured the terrifying ordeal by eating puffed rice and licking water from rocks.

 The option to drill vertically was chalked out after the auger machine being used for horizontal drilling of the tunnel broke down.

Talking about the lack of escape tunnel, expert Arnold Dix said that escape tunnels are mostly constructed towards the end.

Official sources have reported that a protective covering is being installed within the Silkyara tunnel, where 41 workers have been trapped for a duration of two weeks. 

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CPI Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam urged him to ensure that the developmental activities are undertaken keeping in mind the Himalayan ecosystem without harming nature.

The fate of 41 labourers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand for the past 13 days hangs in the balance as the rescue operation faces multiple challenges.

Uttarakhand Tunnel Collapse: The rescue operation to free the 41 workers stuck inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi is in its final stages.

As per latest repors,drilling operation might take 12 to 14 hours to rescue workers from inside the tunnel. Former PMO advisor Bhaskar Khulbe has made huge statement on the same.

Uttarakashi Tunnel Collapse: The rescue teams are trying to move further by 6 metres from the 45-metre mark that they had reached last night. The drilling work was halted last night due to an iron metal, but it was resolved.

This comes a sigh of relief for 41 construction workers who have been trapped inside the underconstruction tunnel due to landslide debris that blocked the exit on November 12.

A tunnel-boring machine is currently in operation at the forefront. Additionally, efforts are being made to utilize blasting techniques to widen the tunnel entrance for inserting a micro-boring machine. 

All the 41 trapped workers assembled near the camera and the rescue team asked them to clean the screen of the camera. The supervisor could be heard asking those trapped inside the tunnel to not worry and that they would be evacuated soon. 

The rescue operation, which is being conducted on a large scale, involves essential machinery being brought near the Silkyara Tunnel. 

An escape tunnel is being constructed inside the tunnel. Due to the movement of machines, there is considerable vibration in the tunnel, causing anxiety among the labourers involved in the rescue operation.

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: The rescue work is likely to take 4-5 days more as efforts to drill a horizontal hole using the American auger machine didn’t yield the desired results. The rescue work had to be stopped following a fresh collapse of a boulder yesterday.

With the five-option action plan, BRO along with the Indian Army is working to safely rescue labourers trapped in the tunnel at Silkyara.
