No-nonsense reformer Kyriakos Mitsotakis, son of a former prime minister has beaten the odds to become the new leader of Greece's conservative New Democracy party after winning a nationwide vote, Greek media reported.

Greece`s election hung on a knife-edge on Saturday as radical former premier Alexis Tsipras retook a slight lead in the final hours of a tight race against the conservatives for the helm of government.

Greece`s two dominant politicians on Monday ruled out working with each other in a coalition, casting doubt on whether a stable government will emerge from an election that polls indicate neither of them can win outright.
