Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed India`s Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Bhati for bagging a gold and bronze respectively.

Under the Sports Ministry's Cash Award Scheme, Mariyappan will get Rs 75 lakh and Bhati will be presented Rs 30 lakh for their feat.

Thangavelu claimed top spot after his best leap of 1.89 metres while Bhati registered his best mark of 1.86m.
