Veg thali News
The decline in the cost of a non-vegetarian thali was driven by lower vegetable prices and an estimated 12 per cent on-year drop in broiler prices, which make up about 50 per cent of its cost, the report said.
The decline in vegetarian thali cost on-year was due to a sharp drop in prices of vegetables on a high base, according to the Crisil Intelligence report.
The cost of the veg thali increased due to a surge of 30 per cent, 46 per cent and 59 per cent in prices of tomato, onion and potato, respectively, largely due to the low base of last fiscal.
The cost of the non-veg thali declined faster due to an 8-10 per cent month-on-month dip in prices of broilers, which account for 50 per cent of the cost, report added.
In August, the cost of a vegetarian thali declined marginally month-on-month on a high base and was elevated year-on-year for the second time this fiscal, primarily because of firm tomato prices.
