Volkswagen Ameo has brought a bagful of segment first features to the table.
German carmaker Volkswagen launched most awaited sub-compact sedan Ameo in India on Saturday at a starting price of 5.14 lakh to 6.91 Lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The car costs between Rs 5.24 lakh and Rs 7.05 lakh in Delhi (ex-showroom).
The Volkswagen Ameo is the German auto giant’s entry into the compact sedan segment.
The Ameo will compete in the 25,000 units-a-month sub-4 meter car market that constitutes 8-10 per cent of the monthly volume. This market has around half-a-dozen models with Maruti Suzuki's Swift Dzire leading with almost 60 per cent market share, followed by Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Figo.
The Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan will be offered in three variants in the Indian market.
The sub-4 metre sedan will be available with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2 litre petrol engine will be mated to 5 speed gear box while the 1.5 litre diesel engine will be available in 5 speed manual and 7 speed automatic transmissions.
The Volkswagen Ameo will be manufactured at VW's Chakan facility in Maharashtra. It will compete with the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire.
