The Supreme Court on July 10 refused to halt the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar – a move that has triggered fierce opposition and legal pushback with elections just months away.
Bihar Elections 2025: The Supreme Court on July 10 urged the Election Commission of India to consider accepting Aadhaar, ration card, and EPIC as valid identity proofs for voters during the special electoral roll revision in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. The Court sought ECI’s response but did not halt the revision process.
These individuals were granted citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, in May 2024.

EC said that linking Aadhar with Voter ID voluntary
No entry in the electoral roll shall be deleted on the ground of non-submission of Aadhaar, they clarified
Electors may submit a copy of any of the seven alternatives
The Election Commission has introduced a new form --Form 6B -- using which people willing to link their Aadhaar numbers with the electoral roll can do so manually. However, the EC says that furnishing of Aadhaar number is purely voluntary.
Now voter id card will be linked with Aadhaar card. This decision has been taken by the Maharashtra Election Commission. This process will start from August 1.
On several occassions people change their address, move to other constituencies, due to which the Election Commission of India has to keep updating the voters list periodically. Hence, if you are an aware voters, you might want to check your name on the ECI website at occassional intervals.

The minister replying to further questions said that the government has not received any instructions from the Supreme Court regarding the issue of linking Aadhaar with Voter ID.
