The Delhi government had earlier given early winter break to the students due to severe air pollution. The schools were closed between November 9 and November 18 due to air pollution.

Cold wave to severe cold waves are very likely to hold their sway over parts of North India including the national capital till Wednesday. In view of the cold wave, the Rajasthan government had earlier extended winter vacation for the government and private schools. Now, the Udaipur District Magistrate has further extended the school holidays for another two days.

The Haryana government today extended the winter vacation for its schools as there is no respite from the cold wave. The state government decided to extend the winter vacation by another week. According to a new notification by the Directorate of School Education of Haryana, the schools will now open on January 23.

According to a previous directive, all government schools in Delhi operated by the Directorate of Education would be closed from 1 January to 15 January 2023 for the winter break.

Several districts in Uttar Pradesh have extended the winter vacations amid the severe cold wave conditions in the state.

This year's Jesus Christ's birthday i.e. Christmas falls on Sunday. As a result, schools and colleges will have about 10 to 15 days off over the weekend. Many schools will be closed for about 10 days as winter vacation.

According to the official notification, the winter vacation starts from December 31 to January 14; whereas summer vacation will be from May 20 to June 15.
