Naomi dropped from 7 to 12th position, ending her streak of 140 consecutive weeks in the Top 10, a streak that started on September 17, 2018. The Japanese player, earlier this year, had pulled out of the French Open and Wimbledon citing mental health concerns, and had taken an indefinite break from tennis after her loss at the US Open.

American tennis player Coco Gauff has broken into top 100 of the latest women's singles rankings at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) after grabbing her maiden title at Linz Open. 

Canadian tennis star Bianca Andreescu has broken into the top five of the Women's Tennis Professionals (WTA) rankings after lifting her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2019 US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York. 

Williams, on the other hand, climbed up two places to grab eighth spot in the updated women's singles rankings, ATP reported.

Maria Sharapova's run to the Italian Open semi-finals has earned her an 11-place jump to 29th in the latest WTA rankings on Monday.

All eight women competing at the WTA Finals will go into the tournament believing they have a genuine chance of finishing the season on a high note when round-robin play starts on Sunday without a clear favourite for the title.

But with every round unfolding, one or the other chipped off the race. Second-seeded Simona Halep was stunned in the first round of the tournament by Maria Sharapova. Pliskova, Muguruza, and Svitolina raced away deeper into the tournament which put aside the remainders on the list. Ergo, the race now stands between these three tennis players.
